Overhung ::: Waiting

overhung

Overhung are a hard rock band from India. I don’t know about you but this is the first hard rock band I’ve ever listened to from India and I must admit these guys are really pretty good. Their album is available in July but in the meantime they have an EP available for free download on their website, which is also really pretty cool http://www.overhung.co/

Taken from the guys website the band consists of :

Sheldon: Drums and resident handy man. aka Driver with cherry blow-sum. (Anyone called Sheldon is a legend in my books :) )

Melroy Coelho: He is the beshht at what he does. And what he does is mispronounce words when he is drunk, which is almost always.

Howard: Self depreciating black. Hard to spot.

Sujit: Marku Jitsu and evil sexpot. Rum guzzler and mallu porn fan.

I’m really liking these guys already. They also state on the website that their attitude towards music is to have fun and this is the exact approach you want to be taking when it comes to something as volatile as the music industry.

The opening song Waiting is definitely the strongest, sweet riffs, strong vocals and an excellent guitar solo just before the last chorus, lyrically its just what you expect from a rock punk band. From my take on the lyric’s it is appears to be about  guilt and conscience and how its always there waiting to show it’s face. Really good song, with deep meaning.

Keep me buried inside you

Deep in somewhere

I’m churning your sweet dreams

Into nightmares

Your skeletons and

Rotting mummies inside

I’m waking them up now

To show your true side

The second track on the EP is Casual Bitch. Firstly I hate the word “bitch” but I’m not going to let it make me be biased against the song. Its basically about a casual relationship. Again, strong vocals and heavy guitar use. Solo appears right smack in the middle of the song and this guy can really play.

I think she’s almost done with me

I think I feel the same way.

I see no future no wedding rings

I see no house on the bay.

Ok so as a woman I don’t exactly like the lyric’s but that’s not gonna take away from the song. Its really catchy and I have found myself singing it afterwards without even  realising it.

Waste is the third song on the EP, this is more of a ballad, anthem, much softer, with sweeter vocals. Kinda reminds me of the band Poison. I really liked this one. The lyrics are very deep and its obvious that its rebelling against conformity of some sort. Really beautiful, heartfelt song.

After the deep , meaningful song Waste comes, You think your so cool, this ones the complete opposite, its fun, punky, with what seem to be offspring influences. Song starts with – NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA, You think you’re so cool, But we’re making fun of you.

To sum it up, this band is hot… Real hot. Can’t wait for the album release.
